What is Hyperaudio?
Hyperaudio makes online video as easy to consume, share, and remix as text, and we do this by connecting words on your screen to moments of time in a video. We are working hard to make it easy for anybody to take a video and add it to the Hyperaudio ecosystem, but more importantly we are doing our best to give people a reason to want to bother!
Most of our focus right now is on helping people tell stories and learn about the world around them. We're doing this by creating interfaces to make Hyperaudio-enabled videos searchable and remixable.
How much does it cost?
Hyperaudio is free and open source. This means that it costs nothing to use our tools. If you want a Hyperaudio transcript, we will help you write one, and if you don't want to write one yourself we will do our best to get you something using our automated tools.
Money only enters the picture if you want us to host your media files and you aren't OK with other people using them in their remixes. We also have a few third party partners who are willing to generate transcripts for you if you aren't up for the challenge yourself, and they charge for their services.
What can I do with it?
Well, that all depends on what you're trying to do with it...
- Consumers: A video with Hyperaudio makes it easy to jump to the parts of a video that you want to see the most because you can click on words in a transcript and start from that point. You can also share clips of the video with your friends, or search the video for words or phrases.
- Makers: Hyperaudio Pad makes it possible to edit videos and create remixes using text. You just highlight the parts of the transcript you want to use, copy it to your work-in-progress, and then do it again with another video source. After a few minutes you can publish an awesome video that contains exactly the content you want.
- Publishers: Having a Hyperaudio transcript makes your videos more accessible to search engines and visitors alike. You can also start to dream up new kinds of interactivity around your videos, because you know exactly what words are being spoken at any given moment in time.
How can I use it?
If you just want to experiment with Hyperaudio you should play with the Hyperaudio Pad. Otherwise, if you are technically inclined you can check out Hyperaudio.js.
Where can I learn more?
There is a great google group that you should join! Also, if you have ever heard of IRC we hang out in #hyperaudio on Freenode.
